A 4 hour trip from Windsor to Retford led to fantastic expectations from all the family, for this weekend mini break.Thankfully, it was well worth the trip- as well as the many ‘Are we there yet?s’ as Ye Olde Bell is a stunning 16th century hotel with recently opened state-of-the-art medical spa bursting with character, joyful decor at every turn, as well as importantly: truly excellent food.
You understand you’ve had an legendary break when you leave a day later feeling like you’ve been away for a week!

The personnel were attentive, kind as well as went above as well as beyond across the board with the stewards taking time to share stories, chat to the youngsters as well as ensure we had whatever we needed (and that intolerances were catered for).
Charming, not intrusive however the cherry on the cake, the entire personnel must be applauded as well as it wasn’t just reserved for we reviewers either, I noticed all the guests were treated as we were.
Simply put, it was one of our most favourite breaks to-date with the perfect combination of tasty seasonal as well as thoughtfully curated food from breakfast to dinner, as well as a relaxing if not as well short stay in the medical spa (I will requirement to return without the youngsters next time for a longer session) -oh as well as snow.
We couldn’t have felt more joyful if we tried.
Food-wise, I was incredibly impressed with the basic as well as range on offer. It came as no surprise that daily saw the bistro as well as restaurant completely booked together with Christmas celebrations in adjacent spaces as well as lavish weddings over the two days we were there.
I ate so much, I waddled out of there!

We essentially ate whatever on the menu over two meals spanning homemade bread with garlic butter, smoked poultry risotto, scallops, burgers for the kids, grilled salmon, pan-fried poultry with gnocci, Banoffee pie, pear tart, brownies with vanilla ice cream as well as champagne sorbet- Oh, as well as not forgetting Christmas turkey the complying with day with all the trimmings!

Aside from the mouthwatering food, there’s something rather wonderful about Ye Olde Bell, yes, the history contributes, however so does the enthusiasm as well as care the personnel hold for their location of work as well as those who go to it. The receptionist even mentioned exactly how much she likes working there, as well as it showed.
The spaces have character as well as the comfiest beds imaginable, with antique features however no clutter. It’s old institution elegance at its best, something I personally like from shop hotels.
Close to Yorkshire, I’ll be returning with my mum in tow for a girlie break as it’s just 45 minutes from her home.
